Way to go, Peter!

We had our morning update with Dr. Burney. Some good news!

*Blood tests are showing good stability with white blood cell counts, sodium, hemoglobin, etc. They will now be doing blood work only once a day instead of twice unless things change. Also no fevers for 24 hours now.

*His seizure medication will also only be given once a day instead of twice.

*The blood cultures show no signs of lingering bacteria.

*They did have to turn the ventilator up to 10 again, but the doctor said it was normal in this stage of recovery for Peter to have periodic breathing. 10 is still a significant improvement from yesterday morning/afternoon.

And the three most exciting things...1) Peter opened his eyes on his own :) We have been waiting for this for awhile. Now it needs to continue! 2) Peter has feeding tube! They are waiting to assess the x-ray to make sure it is properly placed. After that he will be on a trial size feeding to make sure his digestive system can handle the milk. If all goes well, as we pray and hope it will, then he can have full feedings starting tomorrow.  2) The swelling around his brain has gone down. Still some swelling which is concerning, but we're so grateful that it's improving.

Joseph Michael has been such a good boy throughout this craziness. He sang to Peter this morning and wants to cheer up the other children. Unfortunately some of the children on this floor have conditions that could spread, so he can't comfort others like he wants to. Peter is lucky to have a big brother who is so compassionate.
