Peter's Game Plan Today

Peter had a bath and some tubing adjustments while the doctor talked with us about the plan for today. There are a few goals:

*Peter is getting enough fluid volume to stay hydrated with his feeding tube, but he will need more calories. The goal is to have a level of 33--they increased it to 25 so he's on his way.

*He also has to have his breathing tube off for him to move from the PICU and to help him recover more fully. There are two levels that need to change. One has something to do with the oxygen volume. He's at a 7 (was an 8 this morning) and needs to be able to get to a 5. The other is how much the ventilator is supporting his breath. He is at 15 now and needs to be able to breath without the support at all. He was at a 5 before the seizures were occurring again, so we know he can get that low again. He's doing some good breaths on his own right now so keep it up, little guy!

The healing of his meninges and brain are still a significant concern. His scan a few days ago showed suppressed brain activity from both the meningitis and medication he was on for the first seizure. His increased activity level is a good sign that this is hopefully healing. This is what will impact his long-term recovery.

Joey and I had a nice time taking turns singing to Peter while he was awake, and I had a nice time playing with Joseph Michael; he's so smart! We're looking forward to more improvements for Peter and more family time later.
