Baby Peter Updates

With the many loved ones wanting to check in on Peter and be informed of every step in his progress, we thought it would be nice to have a place for people to check in whenever it is convenient for them. (Though still feel free to call or text any time with questions or just to chat...we like it! :) ) We also thought this could be a special record to keep track of this difficult but special time in our family with our sweet baby Peter.

Since this morning, there have been a few developments:

*The bacteria has been determined to officially be Group B Strep. Peter's antibiotics have been reduced to just penicillin. Unfortunately we are are now looking at a 3-week minimum hospital stay at this point.

*Peter might be able to have a feeding tube soon. We are waiting on a good diaper so they can test to make sure his digestive system is working proper. We are anxious for him to be able to get some good nourishment with milk and hope this will be able to happen soon.

*He didn't have any seizures this afternoon but had a fairly strong one and another more mild one this evening. Poor little guy. He recovered quickly afterward, but this is still a significant concern because of the additional stress this places on the swelling around his brain.

*The ventilator has been turned very low which means Peter is breathing much more on his own. It is a possibility if this continues that he will be able to have the breathing tube removed. This would allow us to be able to hold our sweet baby which we desperately want to do, especially since one of Peter's favorite things is to be held.

Those are the main changes so far today. We are trying to keep a wise balance and appreciate our family time as much as possible. Big brother Joseph Michael and Maegan got to have some time together at the park today while Joey was with Peter, and tonight Maegan is with Peter while Joey and Joseph Michael have a "boy's night" together. They went to see the "Wizard of Oz" with Grampa Jim and Uncle John's children.

We are so grateful for your kind encouragement, thoughts and prayers. We feel so loved and recognize the Lord's love and blessings being poured upon our family. Hopefully we will have some more good news in the morning!
